Dear Parents and Students,
Congratulations! Your son or daughter may be enrolled in what I consider to be very valuable courses of his/her high school experience. Over ten weeks I will be exposing the class to cognitive classroom work including; short lectures, group discussions, small group work, and individual studying. We will potentially engage in, lifetime Wellness, regular metabolic and strength conditioning, nutrition guidelines, stress management and a plethora of curricular concepts. The individual course “Performance Criteria” can be linked to.
These courses have genuine lifetime application. Students will be exposed to new ideas about being assertive in their relationships and improving their communication skills. The value of participating in programs of this nature is obvious, but regular attendance is a must. That’s why I’m asking your help in assuring your child’s participation each day. Each and every class is an interactive, meaningful part of the student’s experience. The purpose of this letter is to make you aware that your child is enrolled in such valuable life application experience, as well as requesting your support in your child’s consistent attendance.
The current American way of life no longer provides a human body and mind with sufficient nutrition and physical exercise to maintain adequate wellness. Furthermore, many present stressful lifestyles and dietary patterns are such a serious threat to our physical and emotional wellness that they actually increased the deterioration rate of the human body and often lead to premature illness and mortality.
Although people in the United States are firm believers in the benefits of adequate nutrition, and physical activity, , and positive lifestyle patterns as a means to promote better health, most do not reap the benefits because they simply do not know how to implement a sound nutrition, stress management, and physical fitness programs that will indeed yield the desired results of vitality and passion for each day.
Scientific evidence has clearly shown that improving the quality and most likely longevity of our lives is a matter of personal choice. The biggest challenge that we are faced with at the beginning of this century is to teach individuals how to take control of their personal wellness habits to insure healthier, happier, and more productive life.
I thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope that your child has shared this with you. Please know that your child and I have shared in detail the class expectations and procedures, and please know that all class information, Performance Criteria; grading policy, homework assignments, handouts, and even class pictures are are shared regularly.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the school at (508) 429-0677 ext. 5560, or e mail me.
“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy
body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. The
relationship between the soundness of the body and the activities of the mind
is subtle and complex. Much is not yet understood. But we do know what the
Greeks knew: that intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of
their capacity when the body is healthy and strong; that hearty spirits and
tough-minds usually inhabit sound gods.”
